The Assistant Teacher will be joining a team of teachers who feel called to serve God’s youngest children with passion and excellence. The central focus of our team is to connect with each child and family to encourage and support them with God’s love. The Assistant Teacher will teach and communicate with intention and passion and maintain a culture where all staff can thrive and grow professionally. A culture that glorifies our Lord and Savior and supports a positive culture for our teachers as well as the children and families that attend our school.

The Assistant Teacher is a critical part of our program. You will help keep the quality and consistency required when one of our lead teachers are unable to work. ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Support the Director in maintaining a quality program that upholds the standards, goals, and overall mission of UCiC

  • Assist the Lead Teacher and other staff with maintaining a well-functioning, safe classroom, specialty classes, outdoor play supervision

  • Creatively solve problems and resolve concerns with students by working with other teachers

  • Build a quality and intentional early learning environment

  • Perform tasks independently in a timely manner without direct supervision

  • Know and comply with the state regulations concerning a state licensed preschool and know specifically how it impacts duties

  • Intentionally develop positive relationships with students and their families

  • Assist Lead Teacher in lesson preparation and implementation

  • Maintain flexibility and the ability to change direction quickly in response to a variety of situations that can occur in the classroom

  • Assist Lead Teachers in writing child/classroom observations and preparing progress reports for parents

  • Work collaboratively with a supervisor, coworkers, students, and parents

  • Perform other related duties as assigned

 

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:

Any equivalent combination of knowledge, skills, abilities, education and experience

  • Christian commitment: Demonstration of a Christian commitment and relationship with Jesus Christ and being active in a local church

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent

  • Experience: Prior experience working with toddlers, preschoolers, elementary age children, or in children’s ministry

  • Licensure/Certification: Must have the following, or be willing to obtain upon hire;

    • Washington State required 20 hour basic training or show proof of a waiver

    • Child/infant CPR and first aid

    • HIV and blood borne pathogen training

    • Food handlers’ card

    • Proof of negative Tb skin test

    • Other certifications as deemed necessary

  • Must have a patient, child-centered temperament

  • Must be able to have the ability to clearly communicate to young children as well as clearly communicate both verbally and in writing to parents

  • Ability to work collaboratively with a supervisor, coworkers, students, and parents

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Education: CDA or working towards one or two year degree
