Art Class – All ages weekly!

Students will enjoy a special art class once a week for all age groups.

Our Early Preschool students will focus on freedom of expression and process arts. We explore new textures and painting tools to create beautifully unique art pieces. Our Early Preschoolers will also have an introduction to Art History by completing an Artist study once every quarter (3 times during the school year).

The artists we will be studying this year are Kandinsky, Jackson Pollock, and Andy Warhol.

In our Preschool/Pre-K program, we expand our knowledge of art by testing different art forms. Our older age group enjoys art history as a monthly study and works with 2-dimensional and 3-dimensional art forms.  The artists that our preschoolers and pre-k students will be studying are:

Claude Monet, Pablo Picasso, Michelangelo, Georges Seurat, Van Gogh, Katsuchika Hakusai, Alexander Caler, Mattise, Frida Kahlo.

Music Class – All ages weekly!

Music and Dance is a key part of early childhood development. At UCiC we explore music with expressive dancing, instruments, musical games, and singing with different rhythms and pitch. Our older group will enjoy an introduction to music theory and learning about music from around the world. While our Early preschoolers focus on self-expression and large muscle growth (gross motor skills)

Parents can participate in their child’s musical development by attending our performances. We host two performances each year, one at Christmas and one at the end of the school year. This is an opportunity for our children to showcase their musical growth and shine on stage.

Science Class – All ages monthly

Science and sensory exploration is conducted in all of our classes on a daily basis, but once a month we gather both our early preschoolers and our older preschool/pre-k students to conduct science experiments. Through our science class, our students will learn how to make predictions, carry out experiments, and adjust them to create new results. We will learn how to use basic science tools. Some types of science we will be exploring are chemistry, biology, technology, archeology, and oceanography.

Book Club – Preschool and Pre-k monthly

At UCiC we love to read! Our Preschool/pre-k students attend book club once a month where they will enjoy a new storybook. This club aims to grow each child’s vocabulary and linguistic skills. We will learn about the parts of a story (plot, characters, setting), rhyming words, and storytelling.

Social-Emotional Class – Preschool and Pre-k monthly

Ever since COVID-19, we have seen a rise in students struggling with social-emotional skills. We want our students to thrive in their communities by giving them the skills they need to communicate with others clearly about their emotional wants and needs. These skills will be carried with them as they navigate academic life and join the workforce as adults. This class is only offered to preschool and pre-k students due to their larger vocabularies. However, social-emotional education is happening in all of UCiC’s classrooms on a daily basis for all ages. Through the course of the year, our students will learn about boundaries, self-soothing, problem-solving, perseverance, empathy, and friendship, among other valuable life skills.

Gardening Club – Preschool and Pre-k monthly

Gardening club is an amazing opportunity to learn where our food comes from. This club is special for our preschool and pre-k class. Gardening is a year-round exploration. From learning about the life cycles of plants, tending to small seeds, watering, harvesting fruits and vegetables and even eating and preparing a meal with grown items, this club always has something to offer no matter the season.
